[He reaches into a bag (that he was totally carrying this whole time and remembered to grab as he was rushing over) and pulls out... this hat, which he holds out to her.]

The clothing shop! Katara was showing me all kinds of neat hats they had there the other week.

It was! We had a lot of fun. But some of them were kinda scary.

You can ask Katara, it was real! I'd show it to you if I wasn't afraid that it was alive. There already was a different hat that controlled me in the last experiment.

Yeah, it was a nice-looking hat that made me feel really happy all the time. But it also made me addicted to tea and it was all I could think about.
